Unidentified Aircraft with Names #27
N27 #3 SHOOT SUCKER-YOUR-FADED. Believed to have been taken in Townsville in 1944, this is on the aft end of a 5AF B-24. Interestingly, the tail bumper is an unmodified factory fitting; B-24s which passed through the Hawaiian Air Depot received as one of a number of modifications, a HAD-designed, wheeled tail bumper. The likelihood is that this is one of the 'retreaded' B-24DASs sent to the Pacific and which did not pass through HAD.
N27 #4b SHY ANN. This one snuck up on us. There is another, almost identical SHY ANN in the 7th BG which is B-24J-CO 44-40985 and this was automatically accepted to be the same aircraft. A sharp eye noticed that the anti-glare panel on the nose is that of a Ford-built aircraft, making this an unknown B-24L-FO 44-49xxx. Just to further complicate the issue, it is NOT the B-24L-FO 44-49594 of the 453rd BG!
